Chopper’s Story

A Vancouver Police Officer’s Devastating Diagnosis

Donate Now

Ryan “Chopper” Masales is a “cop’s cop.” He has spent his career with the Vancouver Police Department taking the tough assignments. He has worked in drug units, undercover operations, and he has worked on the kind of jobs that give you nightmares for life. Ryan is the guy you hope dispatch sends to your door when you need help. He is also a husband, father, and a highly respected and well-liked police officer.

Three years ago, he was told he had a malignant brain tumor and one year to live. He has endured more than 60 rounds of chemo, and the maximum amount of radiation a human can receive. As a result, he has lost sight in one eye. He has already been through two brain surgeries.

Ryan and his wife Estelize have now exhausted every option available in Canada and will not receive any more government funding. Ryan does qualify for an experimental treatment in the US. They need $200,000 to pay for it and have raised 60% so far. It is Ryan’s only option and could also bring us closer to a cure for a fatal disease that currently affects 1.4 million people worldwide.
