Primal Defense: Everyday Armed Combatives

Knife Defense

The Primal Defense: Everyday Armed Combatives (EDAC) Knife Defense course is a series of 1.5 hour classes. These Knife Defense courses build the skills needed to defend yourself, and show what to expect in real world armed combative situations. Students will learn how to properly defend against different types of attacks, and how/when to introduce a weapon into the fight. The students will go through different reality-based situational awareness scenarios using SIRT (laser) training pistols.

These scenarios will induce stress to make the training as realistic as possible, but students will get multiple repetitions to correctly respond to each situation. Each Knife Defense class is limited to 10 students to allow the instructors to cater to each individual’s capabilities. Every student will gain a better knowledge of which self-defense tactics to apply in a variety of situations and leave with a sense of fulfillment after developing critical life-saving skills they can use to protect themselves and others.

The Knife Defense Series will teach students how to defend themselves against different types of knife attacks. Knife Defense 1 focuses on defending against two of the most common overhead attacks, the “slash” and “ice pick.” Knife Defense 2 focuses on defending against underhand stabbing and slashing attacks. Students will also learn how and when to introduce a weapon into the fight, and how to retain their weapon in a self-defense situation. The class begins with a light warm up and stretching followed by a discussion on use of force and situational awareness exercises. After the instructor demonstrates each technique, students will then practice with a partner. At the end of the class, each student will go through a final scenario against the instructor. These stand-alone classes do not need to be taken in any particular order.
