There is a moment I notice almost every time someone walks into one of our classes for the first time.
You can see it before they even say a word. There is a pause, a little hesitation, sometimes even uncertainty about whether they are in the right place.
I recognize it because I have been there myself.
I did not grow up around firearms, and I definitely did not walk into my first training class feeling confident. I walked in unsure, a little overwhelmed, and honestly questioning if I even belonged there. What I found at 88 Tactical changed that completely.
The Power of the Right Training Environment
It was not just the training. It was the environment.
From the very beginning, there was an understanding that not everyone comes in with the same experience, and more importantly, not everyone learns the same way. That matters, especially for women. Training spaces have not always felt approachable or inclusive, and for a lot of women, just showing up can be the hardest part.
That is why the environment we have built here is so intentional.
It is supportive without being soft. It is structured but never intimidating. It is a place where you can ask questions, take your time, and build confidence without feeling judged. That is where real growth starts.
As a female instructor, I have seen how much of a difference that makes. When women are in a space where they feel comfortable, they open up. They push themselves. They gain confidence faster because they are not holding back. It is not about changing the standard of training. It is about creating a space where women can fully step into it. Learn more about building confidence through structured training.
Confidence That Extends Beyond the Classroom
That confidence carries far beyond the classroom.
The same idea applies when we talk about youth training, and it is just as important. So much of what we teach kids is not just about safety, it is about how they carry themselves in everyday situations.
Confidence. Awareness. Decision making. Those are life skills.
When kids are taught in the right environment, they do not just learn what to do. They understand why it matters. They become more aware of their surroundings, more confident in how they respond, and more prepared for situations that are very real in today’s world.
Why Youth Training Builds Real-World Readiness
Just like with our women’s programs, the environment matters.
It has to be engaging. It has to feel safe. It has to build them up, not shut them down. When that happens, you see a shift. Not just in skill, but in how they think and carry themselves.
That is what makes this kind of training so impactful.
More Than Training—It Becomes Community
Over time, it becomes something bigger than just classes. It becomes a community. You start to see familiar faces, people encouraging each other, celebrating progress, and showing up not just to learn, but to grow.
That is something I did not expect when I first started.
And it is something I am incredibly proud to be a part of now.
Your Starting Point Does Not Define You
The biggest thing I tell people is this. Your starting point does not matter.
You do not need experience. You do not need to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing to walk in and try.
Because once you do, everything starts to shift.
Confidence builds. Skills develop. And what once felt intimidating becomes something you feel capable of handling.
That is what we aim to create here every single day.
A place where women feel strong. Where kids feel empowered. And where anyone, no matter where they are starting from, can take that first step and know they are in the right place.
