Basic Handgun Training Courses

Our Basic Handgun training courses are designed for new shooters to build a solid foundation in firearm safety, precision, and self-defense. Basic Handgun levels 1 through 3 focus on developing confidence and competence through essential techniques and skills. Students will participate in a mix of engaging lectures, dry-fire practice, and live-fire drills to ensure a well-rounded learning experience.

LEVEL 1

This course is tailored for individuals with some introductory experience who are ready to build a solid foundation in defensive handgun skills.

COURSE RATE: $85

  • Eye and ear protection 
  • Pistol in proper working order (unloaded and stored in the case before arrival) 
  • Three or more magazines/speed loaders 
  • Sturdy holster and belt 
  • 150 rounds of quality ammunition 
  • For this course, a T-shirt and a loose-fitting shirt are recommended. Please refrain from low-cut or V-neck shirts, as hot brass can cause burns. 
  • Must be at least 18 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. The student or parent/legal guardian signing the waiver must have a valid government-issued I.D. 
  • Must have completed a Concealed Carry or Intro to Handgun course.  

LEVEL 2

This course is tailored for individuals with some introductory experience who are ready to build a solid foundation in defensive handgun skills.

Basic Handgun Course Structure

Basic Handgun is divided into three progressive levels. Upon passing the final level, students qualify to take the Basic Qualification. Intro to Handgun or 88 Tactical’s Nebraska Concealed Handgun Permit course is required as a prerequisite, unless waived by a Lead Instructor or higher in the training department.

Basic Handgun Level 1

This course is tailored for individuals with some introductory experience who are ready to build a solid foundation in defensive handgun skills.

Basic Handgun Level 2

This course builds on the fundamentals introduced in Basic Handgun Level 1 and combines lectures, dry-fire exercises, and live-fire drills to advance students' defensive shooting abilities.

  • Eye and ear protection 
  • Pistol in working order (unloaded and stored in a case prior to arrival) 
  • Minimum of 3 magazines/speed loaders (more recommended) 
  • Sturdy holster and belt 
  • 150 rounds of quality ammunition 
  • A t-shirt with a loose-fitting top (avoid low-cut or V-neck shirts to prevent burns from hot brass) 
  • Must be at least 18 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. The student or parent/legal guardian signing the waiver must have a valid government-issued I.D. 
  • Must have completed Basic Handgun Level 1, unless waived by the training department.   

Basic Handgun Level 3

This course builds on the fundamentals introduced in Basic Handgun Level 2 and focuses on diagnosing and correcting grip and trigger control issues to maintain consistent accuracy.

  • Eye and ear protection 
  • Pistol in working order (unloaded and stored in a case before arrival) 
  • Minimum of 3 magazines/speed loaders (more recommended) 
  • Sturdy holster and belt 
  • 150 rounds of quality ammunition 
  • Must be at least 18 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. The student or parent/legal guardian signing the waiver must have a valid government-issued I.D. 
  • Completion of Basic Handgun 1 and 2 or waived by a training instructor

Basic Handgun Qualification

The Basic Qualification allows students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge gained throughout the course. To pass, students must achieve a score of 70% or higher within three attempts, with each stage completed within a set time limit.*

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Certificate of Completion, a custom pin, and access to the next level of handgun training.

*If students do not pass within three attempts, they can repeat any class in the level at half price for additional practice.
